Abstract
This disclosure describes techniques to optimize system performance and/or user experiences of video content delivery systems during transmission of video content to client devices. An adaptive bitrate (ABR) is selected based on current network conditions and estimated bandwidth associated with a client device that seeks video content. With user permission and express consent, user context associated with the viewing is determined. The determined user context is utilized to further adjust the adaptive bitrate of the video content. The content delivery system includes modules for user context determination, rules-based classification and/or model-based classification, and bitrate adjustment. User context determination can include determination of user behavior, time of user activity, user location, user demographic, individual user preference, etc. based on user-permitted contextual data. Bitrate adjustment can be performed using rules-based methods and/or model-based methods.
