Abstract

An image captured by a camera can have a hue different from that of the actual scene as perceived by the human eye. The difference between the human perception and the image of a scene can be traced to inaccurate capture of the color temperature by the image sensor. This disclosure describes techniques to use temperature sensors on a mobile device or camera to adjust the color temperature of an image to render it realistically. Conversely, an image from a well-calibrated camera can be used to estimate the temperature of the scene. If the camera is capturing live footage, the video feed of the camera can be used to estimate the live temperature and weather of the scene. Both forward (scene temperature to image color) and reverse (image color to scene temperature) mappings can be done by appropriately trained machine learning models.
