Abstract

The present disclosure relates to Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP) of a network element over IPv6. ZTP is a method for a network element (NE) to fetch provisioning and configure itself when it boots up very first time. The NE automatically restarts the ZTP process when it encounters errors that cannot complete the provisioning. Therefore, it is important to have a mechanism to report errors back to the user. In IPv6, the ZTP adopts DHCPv6 protocol. However, the DHCPv6 protocol does not define a specific option for the user to specify a log server that errors can be reported back. The present disclosure addresses this issue.
