Abstract
Electric powertrain vehicles generate enormous amounts of electrical noise due to the large/fast switching currents necessary to drive the e-motor and achieve power efficiencies necessary for satisfactory range in an electric vehicle (EV). Most of this noise appears in the lower portion of the RF spectrum which directly affects AM radio reception. The problem is so severe that many OEM’s of EV’s do not offer AM radio in their vehicles. A method is proposed that can improve the performance without adding excessive cost or impacting EV range/performance. The method involves both the transmitted signal and how it is processed at the receiver in the vehicle.
