Abstract

Smart TVs and streaming devices can support installing and using multiple applications. However, to login or authenticate to such applications, users currently need to operate a virtual keyboard via a conventional remote control, which is cumbersome. Also, while many smart home devices support different user-specific settings, authenticating to such devices can be difficult. This disclosure describes a physical keyboard with a fingerprint sensor that can act as a TV controller. The user can simply authenticate via the fingerprint sensor to access their user profile and applications on the TV. The keyboard can also act as a router/ authentication device to specify user identity to smart home devices.
