Abstract
This disclosure describes a cable connection mechanism that enables direct coupling between two cables without the use of PCB pads, thereby reducing insertion loss. Connection between the corresponding conductors of two twin-axial cables is made through the use of an anisotropic conductive elastomer mounted within a surrounding sleeve structure. Aside from low insertion loss (e.g., less than 0.3 dB between 0-40GHz), the described cable connector requires no soldering (resulting in one less manufacturing step), is mechanically robust, is inexpensive compared to conventional connectors, and obviates expensive board-to-board connectors.
