Abstract
This publication describes a histogram-based local tone mapping (LTM) algorithm for a data processing unit (DPU) of an enhanced local tone mapping (LTM) platform that provides better visibility for display systems. The LTM platform may include a high‑frequency (HF) addback feature to recover the high-frequency details, a flatness‑based tone curve control to mitigate halo artifacts, and a hardware (HW) temporal smoothing process to reduce software (SW) computation loading. The described LTM platform can also reduce the non‑smooth change between anchor points.
