Abstract

For AR glasses, transparency is a challenge both from user interface design perspective and a technical perspective. Inside out (user view) and outside in (world view) conspicuity is one of the most challenging issues in AR glass design. It may be advantageous to put electronics (e.g. light sources or sensors) in/on lenses of AR glasses. However, electronics on the lenses would require traces/interconnects to power or communicate with those electronics. AR glasses (as transparent lenses) should be designed such that the user cannot see the interconnects on the lens (direct view of the metal traces or reflections from the trace or Rainbow effect). Additionally, in order to make AR glasses socially acceptable, the world side should not see the interconnect on the lens (direct view of the metal traces or reflections from the trace).
