Abstract

This disclosure describes Multi-chassis LAG which is mainly used in networks to provide a solution to achieve higher network availability. It provides additional benefits over traditional LAG in terms of node level redundancy and multihoming support. The solution proposes the propagation of detected fault on the active RG links by sending an immediate DOWN frame with ‘Concatenated Path Down’ set in diagnostic node of the BFD payload on the ICL link without waiting for control detection expiry to occur for the respective session. The alternate solution where CFM protocol is used to propagate the fault also faces the same challenge as the CFM session is marked as ‘DOWN’ only after the 3 CFM PDUs are not received at the peer end. So, the minimum time needed to propagate this fault to peer will be 3xCCM interval being used for the respective CFM session.
