Abstract

The intimacy between the electrode and electrolyte component is highly essential for the ion transportation between the electrodes during electrochemical cycling. Although this intimacy is achieved in the wet electrode and liquid electrolyte based system by applying the stack pressure, it is still challenging in the solid electrolyte based all solid state battery technology, more particularly in the pouch cell assembly. The current pouch cell sealing technology is not appropriate as far as the dry surface of the electrode and electrolyte membrane and their interfacial contact is concerned. Hence, herein a modified pouch cell sealing strategy is proposed where the sequential heating, pressing and the vacuum sealing confers a better intimacy between the battery components, favouring the smooth ion migration during charging/discharging operation.
