Abstract

When an air filter is clogged in a system, fans in the system need to run at a higher speed to compensate for the airflow loss, which results in high power consumption, high acoustic noise, and overheating. Techniques described herein provide for trapping airborne dust from cool air by placing chemically coated surfaces under tiles of raised floors in a data center. Trapping the dust from the cool air results in extended air filter life, lower power consumption, lower noise, lower maintenance and operating costs, and better control over the ambient temperature.
