Abstract

Power adapters are electric plugs that fit into wall sockets and supply power to devices. Power adapter designs vary across the world. There are at least seven different power adapters currently in use across different geographies. Custom packaging for each regional power adapter requires the creation of uniquely shaped components and boxes, which can increase consumption of raw material, require additional design effort, and cause the manufacturer to not be able to leverage economies of scale. This disclosure describes a modular package design, including a plug tray, that enables power adapters of multiple regional types to be packaged in a box of a single design. The need to create unique components to fit different regional adapter types is thereby obviated, resulting in lower design and raw material costs.
