Abstract
Generative artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities are currently limited to remote servers or to devices that have a machine learning processor or other hardware that can support generative models. This disclosure describes the use of a local device within a smart home local area network (LAN) with generative AI capabilities to fulfill user queries via models executing on-device. Users can utilize such on-device capabilities to obtain generated content or to modify existing content using generative techniques. A server device in the smart home provides an application programming interface (API) to enable client devices to access the generative AI capabilities. The server device can answer queries locally and in a privacy-preserving manner. The devices may be interconnected by a smart home platform. Since the user query is processed entirely on a device within the home network, the described techniques provide enhanced security and privacy.
