Abstract
Books when digitized into the electronic form as images make them efficient to store and can be made accessible to people all over the world via the internet. Scanning book images is one of the most popular way of book digitization. However, scanning introduces several distortions to the book image like shading distortion, border noise, and geometric distortion. These distortions hamper the performance of OCR processing (character recognition/ identification). Therefore, it is important to improve the quality of book scans.
