Abstract

Cameras of various types (e.g., handheld cameras, cameras included in a smartphone, embedded camera systems, etc.) often include camera lenses. These lenses are typically input-only devices. That is, they pass light through from the exterior environment to film or a digital sensor/processor or that produces an image from the light. As such, in some devices with a limited size, camera lens assemblies take up valuable space without providing output capabilities.
