Abstract

Transparent displays often use fixed brightness steps that do not account for surrounding light, which can cause visible line patterns and wasted processing power under changing lighting conditions. The disclosed technology provides a dynamic visual adaptation system for transparent screens by using sensors or cameras to measure surrounding light levels in real time. The system combines these measurements with display settings to calculate contrast threshold steps based on total light reaching the eye of an observer. By evaluating visual contrast sensitivity against total light levels, the system can adjust image bit depth, display driver parameters, or maximum screen brightness. This dynamic adjustment can reduce visible line artifacts, maintain consistent visual contrast in changing light, and decrease memory bandwidth and battery usage.
