Abstract

Charging systems for portable electronic devices, such as smartphones or smart watches, can utilize a monolithic design with a captive cable, which may reduce portability, and create cable clutter. A system can include a modular charging system comprising a detachable, non-captive charging core. This core may feature a device-specific charging interface on one surface and a standardized power input, such as a universal serial bus type-c port, on another. The core can be interchangeably docked into various host housings, for example, a protective keychain carrier, a direct-mated portable battery sled, or a desktop stand. This modular architecture can decouple the core charging electronics from application-specific form factors, potentially enhancing portability, providing protection for the charging component, and increasing functional versatility compared to systems that integrate a charger with a fixed cable.
