Abstract

A liquid-cooled busbar assembly uses a hollow, extruded copper return conductor as a Grounded Hollow Return Conductor Coolant Channel (GHRCCC). The return conductor connects to earth ground, allowing a grounded coolant to flow in direct contact with the conductor’s interior surface. This direct contact transfers heat from the return conductor into the fluid without passing through any thermal interface materials. A solid copper positive conductor is positioned adjacent to the return conductor and is separated from it by an electrically isolative, thermally conductive polymer. Heat from the positive conductor transfers through the polymer to the return conductor and subsequently into the shared coolant. The assembly uses two fluid connections to circulate coolant through the single GHRCCC path, which simplifies the fluidic system and reduces potential leak points.
