Abstract

A collar-style holster for a portable two-way radio surrounds the upper body of the radio and is installed by sliding it up from the battery end until internal stops contact the housing. Two spring retention stops, each a cantilevered tongue cut free from the holster's rear spine on three sides by a U-shaped slot, snap inward beneath a housing feature to prevent the collar from sliding down. Inserting a steel D-ring swivel clip or a belt clip into a U-shaped receiver on the spine places the clip body directly behind the spring stops, preventing them from flexing outward and locking the holster on the radio until the clip is removed. A circular release guide at the top of the spine allows the clip to be released with a pen tip or fingertip. The spine also has shoulder-strap holes, and the collar has openings and a recess so the radio's microphone and accessory connector remain usable. The illustrated embodiment fits the Motorola Solutions APX 5000. Variations in device, stop design, locking member, mounting hardware and materials are also disclosed.
