Abstract

Methods are described for reviewing the shot registrations of an electronic target system that reports, for each registration, a time, a position, a bullet velocity at the target and an incoming angle, together with the raw sensor arrival times from which these were solved. (1) Each registration is compared with the other registrations in the same string by a leave-one-out robust score on each of several measures (incoming yaw, incoming pitch, velocity) and by a physical floor on the time since the previous shot, gated by the string's own cadence, to point an official at registrations that may not belong to the competitor (crossfires, phantom or extra registrations) without issuing a verdict. (2) Paired front and rear acoustic sensors in each sensor unit are used to measure each unit's mechanical lean and shot-to-shot movement (wobble) from ordinary shot data, so that a failing mount can be found before it fails. (3) A target's velocity reading is calibrated against a muzzle chronograph, and a bullet's ballistic coefficient is estimated from muzzle velocity and target-plane velocity with a per-target correction. (4) The velocity drop between two distances across many competitors is used to detect range-specific distance errors and mislabeled strings.
