Abstract

This disclosure describes techniques for automated power measurement for a mobile device. According to the techniques, prior to initiation of the workload, pre-configuration is performed to establish a session identifier (e.g., a 128-bit ephemeral UUID). The device is disconnected from the host system. Turning off wireless interfaces and disconnecting the host system ensures that there is no interference with physical power measurement during workload execution, since the mobile device is physically untethered and operates in an RF-quiet state. A local background process executing on the mobile device detects completion of the workload and causes the mobile device to transmit an advertisement that includes the session identifier wirelessly, e.g., in a just-in-time, connectionless manner using a one-shot Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) broadcast where the device name is explicitly disabled to fit within a legacy payload limit. The techniques can be deployed to perform automated high-throughput benchmarking tests by configuring multiple devices with respective session identifiers to execute workloads simultaneously.
