Abstract
Systems and methods adjust audio presentation based on acoustic conditions detected near a user or characteristics of a voice command. A remote-control microphone can distinguish environmental sound from television audio and provide a control signal that causes temporary changes to volume, dialogue enhancement, or subtitle presentation. A voice-controlled device can analyze spectral characteristics of a command, classify a speaking condition such as whispering, and, in response to detecting whispering, switch an audio-response voice model or speech synthesizer to a whisper-specific profile that produces a breathy and softer voice, rather than merely reducing output volume. The selected voice model or synthesizer can be maintained for a configurable period. The techniques can operate separately or together, and acoustic processing can occur locally.
