Abstract
Waveguide manufacturing techniques and structures are disclosed for geometric reflective waveguides assembled from multiple waveguide blocks that include geometric mirror arrays. At least one mirror array is configured with a diamond-shaped aperture boundary in plan view rather than a rectangular boundary. The blocks may be aligned and combined while retained in a wafer-level or panel-level form, and the combined structure is then diced to produce individual waveguide pieces. Wafer/panel-level alignment may use larger available reference surfaces and may detect the diamond-shaped aperture boundary under illumination using visual inspection or machine vision. The approach supports pre-dicing alignment and combination for 2D geometric reflective waveguide products, including near-eye display waveguides.
