Abstract

We specify a scannable tag (QR code or NFC tag) carried on a circulating banknote so that a tip's thank-you message travels with the cash: gratitude metadata attached to physical currency rather than to a transaction record. A giver leaving a tip stamps or affixes the mark on a lowest-denomination note; any later holder scans it in a mobile browser to read the accumulated messages (text, photo, video or voice), add their own, and pass the note onward, so the note's ordinary circulation is the distribution channel.

The disclosure specifies: a physical mark bearing no words, brand or advertisement, only a neutral glyph and code, with all originator identity resolved on scan, so the mark is not an advertisement upon currency; a free ink-stamp or removable tier that does not impair machine handling, and a brand-originator NFC tier distributed as a companion form rather than a chip on the note; an optional additional amount the recipient keeps, moved peer-to-peer in cash, through a nonprofit's own payment processor, or between the parties' own self-custodial stablecoin wallets, the operator never holding, clearing or taking a fee from funds; the tipping act as an on-ramp to self-custodial stablecoin use; and a location- and time-stamped reputation layer surfacing the most-thanked local businesses and events, resisting manipulation through proof-of-personhood distinct-giver counts, geographic and temporal spread weighting, and no scores, ranks or rewards.
