Abstract
A system is proposed herein for allowing a network interface controller (NIC) to self-heal its media access control (MAC) address in the field safely and only when recovery is warranted. The system operates without an operator or manufacturing tooling and can avoid return merchandise authorization (RMA). When a root of trust (RoT)-anchored authoritative source is used, the system provides a tamper-evident basis for the true MAC address.
