Abstract

AQUILA-X 3.0 is a transportable, modular, multi-barrier water-production platform designed to produce more independently verified potable water per deployable system than conventional mobile RO plants while maintaining safe operation, source-specific treatment, practical energy demand, maintainability, redundancy, and complete residual accountability.

The system does not depend on one miracle component. Its capacity comes from:

  • Selecting the shortest safe treatment route for each characterized source.

  • Removing grit, solids, oil, algae, and foulants before fine membranes.

  • Using multiple independently isolatable production trains.

  • Avoiding high-pressure RO when freshwater does not need desalination.

  • Using dedicated high-pressure SWRO equipment and energy recovery when seawater does need desalination.

  • Keeping potable water physically isolated from utility water, process water, brine, sludge, cleaning fluids, and experimental treatment modules.

  • Defaulting to diversion, rather than accepting uncertain water into potable storage.

  • Publishing source conditions, water-quality data, power, recovery, residuals, maintenance, and downtime alongside every flow claim.

The primary Army reference is the established 3,000-GPH ROWPU, rated around 3,000 GPH under freshwater conditions and 2,000 GPH under saline conditions. AQUILA-X must exceed it by enough to matter—not merely by a token amount; this is the challenge of this research invention.
