Abstract

Large-scale data center and enterprise networks frequently employ Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) to aggregate multiple physical interfaces for redundancy and bandwidth. However, high central processing unit (CPU) utilization can disrupt LACP operations, causing interface flapping and network instability, especially when fast LACP timers and many virtual local area networks (VLANs) are configured. A mitigation technique is proposed herein that uses the LACP Out-of-Sync bit to coordinate interface unbundling during high-CPU events, thereby reducing repeated timer-driven flapping and supporting orderly recovery.
