Abstract

The present disclosure provides hardware solutions for mitigating electronic pickpocketing in contactless payment cards. A smartcard includes an antenna shorting circuit placed across antenna terminals and driven by OR control logic so any proximity or pocket sensor can automatically short the antenna loop, and a series antenna clipping switch placed in the antenna feed and gated by AND control logic requiring deliberate dual pad touch to enable contactless operation. The designs use ultra-low-power capacitive touch sensors, RF-grade semiconductor switches or bilateral analog switches, and CMOS logic to preserve card form factor and contact functionality. The designs prioritize passive or energy harvested control power, tamper resistant placement under lamination, and minimal impact on RF performance when enabled, providing user-centric, reversible control over contactless functionality.
