The present application relates to a process for the preparation of (S)-1-(4-fluorophenyl)-1-(2-(piperazin-1-yl)pyrimidin-5-yl)ethan-1-amine of formula-2 or its salt which is a key intermediate used in the preparation of Avapritinib.
