Abstract
Industrial Silencer Pre-Dimensioning and Rapid Quotation Software
The invention relates to standalone software for the rapid pre-dimensioning, optimization, and cost estimation of industrial silencers used in HVAC, power generation, process industries, and environmental noise control.
Current practice relies either on empirical methods, which are fast but inaccurate, or on CFD/FEM/BEM simulation tools, which require specialist engineers and long computation times. These approaches are unsuitable for preparing competitive quotations within short deadlines.
The invention provides a physics-based calculation engine that generates technically reliable silencer designs in seconds without requiring CFD software or external dependencies. The software combines analytical and semi-analytical acoustic models with aerodynamic calculations to predict insertion loss, transmission loss, and pressure drop while respecting customer constraints such as airflow, allowable backpressure, available space, and target noise levels.
The engine incorporates wave propagation, impedance discontinuities, porous and resonant absorber models, duct lining effects, temperature and flow corrections, friction losses, and local pressure-loss coefficients. A proprietary multi-objective optimization algorithm simultaneously balances acoustic performance, pressure drop, dimensions, weight, material consumption, and manufacturing cost, producing the most cost-effective technically compliant solutions.
The software operates as a self-contained application and uses pre-calculated component libraries and transfer-matrix methods to evaluate multiple configurations in seconds.
Unlike general-purpose CFD or acoustic simulation platforms, this invention is a domain-specific engineering tool dedicated to rapid commercial pre-dimensioning. It bridges the gap between inaccurate spreadsheet estimators and computationally intensive simulation software, dramatically reducing quotation time while ensuring technically sound and economically optimized proposals suitable for subsequent detailed engineering.
