Abstract
The present publication describes an approach for mitigating processing overhead and malicious route oscillations within BGP routing protocol. The described system enhances dampening mechanisms within a routing information base and a forwarding information base by marking unstable routes as unusable while retaining their entries. Furthermore, the approach utilizes policy hardening to enforce a default local preference value for externally advertised routes, which neutralizes exploitation vectors where attackers manipulate route preferences using routing communities.
