Abstract
“PREDICTIVE UTILITY-LED STORAGE ENGINE (PULSE)”
The present disclosure relates to a method and a system for adaptive data compression based on the predicted utility of data segments. The present disclosure suggests receiving a data segment and metadata associated with the data segment. The present disclosure suggests determining a utility score for the received data segment based on a plurality of utility factors. The plurality of utility factors includes a semantic class weight associated with a data category of the data segment, a temporal proximity score derived from a predicted time until the next access, a re-computation cost indicating the cost of regenerating the data segment, and a project priority associated with the data segment. Thereafter, the present disclosure also suggests classifying the data segment into one of a plurality of compression tiers based on the utility score. Upon classifying the data segment, the present disclosure also suggests selecting a compression algorithm from a plurality of compression algorithms based on the compression tier into which the data segment is classified. Subsequently, the present disclosure also suggests compressing the data segment according to the selected compression algorithm and storing the compressed data in a database. Further, the present disclosure suggests retrieving and decompressing the compressed data segment based on metadata identifying the classified compression tier.
