Abstract
The present technical disclosure relates to a plant and to a corresponding process for the production of hydrogen. The hydrogen production plant and process integrate an electrically heated steam methane reformer and a recycle loop configured for improved utilization of tail gas generated in a hydrogen separation unit. The tail gases of the hydrogen separation unit are processed in a methanation reactor, where hydrogen and carbon oxides are converted into methane. The methane-rich stream is recovered from the upgrading unit and recycled to the reformer feed.
