Abstract

This disclosure describes a method for shortening or waiving the warm-up period before an exercise session by crediting the user's recorded prior activity, in combination with heart-rate-gated warm-up termination and audio status delivered through a consumer earbud.

A fitness application queries a platform health-data store (for example Apple HealthKit or Google Fit) and/or its own session log for activity bouts ending within a recency window before the present session — a previously recorded workout, or elevated active-energy or heart-rate samples. When a qualifying bout is found, the minimum warm-up duration is reduced or waived, with the amount of credit scaling with the recency and intensity of that prior activity (for example, crediting a recent cycling or walking commute toward the warm-up of the subsequent session). This history-based crediting is distinct from, and used in addition to, detecting warmth from an instantaneous physiological reading at session start.

In the same method, the warm-up otherwise ends when live heart rate reaches a personalized target computed as a percentage of an age-derived maximum heart rate, subject to a minimum-duration floor and a maximum-duration timeout fallback; the same gating is applied symmetrically to the cool-down (gating down to a lower target). Heart-rate status is announced through the earbud with announcement frequency increasing as the user nears the target, a spoken "ready" or "already warmed up" cue on reaching readiness or on crediting prior activity, and a "starting with warm-up incomplete" cue if the timeout fires first. The method applies to boxing, cycling, running, rowing, and other interval or steady-state sessions.

This disclosure covers crediting warmth for pacing only; it does not cover inferring metabolic readiness, sustainable intensity, or fitness or fatigue state from the heart-rate response to prior activity.
