Abstract
This publication describes systems and techniques for providing artificial intelligence (AI) assisted audio enhancement and synchronization for hearing aids using an associated smartphone to improve audio quality available to the hearing aid user. The system overcomes the hardware limitations of conventional hearing aids and improves the user experience, by utilizing the processing power, sensors, and connectivity of the user’s smartphone. The system creates a distributed microphone array by combining hearing aid microphones with smartphone microphones and offloading signal processing to the smartphone to preserve hearing aid battery life. Utilizing AI models for environment classification, speaker tracking, and binaural synchronization, the system provides audio delivery to left and right hearing aids that is phase-aligned and latency corrected. In aspects, based on learned user preferences, the system generates personalized hearing profiles to suit the environments in which the hearing aids are used.
