Abstract

Proposed herein is a comprehensive anti-theft mechanism for optical pluggable modules used in network equipment. The solution introduces a "Secure Mode" that binds each optical pluggable module to specific network equipment using cryptographic authentication and encryption techniques. Key exchange methods, secure channel establishment, and authenticated command protocols are used to ensure that stolen modules cannot be reused or resold, unless proper credentials are provided or the module is securely reset by authorized personnel. Several implementation options are presented, addressing a range of hardware capabilities, all aiming to protect customers' hardware investments and network integrity.
