Abstract

Existing web browsers and automated agents often lack the precision required to monitor specific, dynamic elements within a webpage, frequently relying on unstructured text analysis or full-page refreshes. Described is a method and graphical user interface for the targeted monitoring of individual webpage elements. A user-defined selection tool is employed to identify a specific document object model (DOM) element, such as a field displaying a song title or a social media comment container.

The browser can monitor the selected element at specified intervals or via mutation observers to detect value changes. When a change is identified, the new value is captured and stored or a notification is triggered. This approach allows for the automated collection of structured data from dynamic web content without requiring manual oversight or high-level programmatic scripts. Greater precision in data tracking can be achieved by binding monitoring tasks to specific functional regions of a webpage.
