Abstract
A display system includes a fixed foveated display region and a peripheral display region that is distributed. The fixed foveated region can include any suitable type of display having a relatively high resolution. The fixed foveated region display may, for example, utilize a high-resolution projector and display tile, such as a liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) display with a diffraction grating, such as a volume Bragg grating (VBG) or surface relief grating (SRG). The fixed foveated display region is located in user’s foveal field-of-view (FOV) when mounted to their head and may additionally be large enough to encompass the foveal FOV within the user’s typical eye motion range (approximately ±20°) before head motion.
