Abstract

Inserting information into content under development interrupts the workflow since context switching is necessary. This disclosure describes techniques to rapidly activate a user interface that enables a user to find information from multiple sources and to insert the information into content under development without switching context. The user interface, activated with the press of a key, enables finding and inserting a wide variety of content (emojis, files, media, locations, contacts, dates, web-links, one-time codes, etc.). With appropriate user permissions, the content can be surfaced using keyword search, recency signals, contextual relevance, etc., and/or can be AI-generated on-the-fly. The entire task of inserting information, which presently involves leaving a composition field, searching for an appropriate piece of information, copying the information, returning to the composition field, and pasting the information, is compressed into a single, efficient find-and-insert action performed without context switching.
