Abstract
Proposed herein are techniques to facilitate analytics on a network controller using path tracing (PT) for Internet Protocol (IP) networks that can be implemented without consuming additional hardware resources. The techniques involve providing a new capability for a node that receives path tracing probes in which the receiving node can timestamp and encapsulate PT packets with an GRE/ERSPAN header and forward the packets to a network controller. The network controller can detect anomalies based on PT measurements.
