Abstract
This publication describes improved power stealing for thermostats coupled to wax-actuated zone valves. In some implementations, a thermostat that is coupled to a wax-actuated zone valve may further be coupled to a zone controller. In this case, a leakage current from the zone controller is employed to prevent an inrush limiter from discharging and causing a voltage spike. Alternatively, when the thermostat is not coupled to the zone controller, an Active Power Steal (APS) is disabled when the wax-actuated zone valve is in a powered state such that the inrush limiter charges smoothly without a voltage spike.
