Abstract

The present disclosure relates to Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) and Seamless BFD (S-BFD), namely discriminator collision detection and recovery. Specifically, a new BFD diagnostic code is presented, e.g., “BFD discriminator cross-connect (xcon).” A BFD session is held in the down state when “BFD discriminator xcon” is detected. On detection on “BFD discriminator xcon,” a new local discriminator value be chosen for session on which fault is detected. This prevents undesirable flapping of BFD session providing better stability of network. With an alarm for discriminator collision, early corrective actions can be taken to recover from such conditions.
