Abstract
Mobile edge computing stands as a critical component for numerous applications that require minimal latency, such as autonomous driving and connected vehicles. Solutions are presented herein to guarantee ultra-low latency consistently for mobile devices, thereby enhancing their operational lifespan. The solutions involve optimal selection of User Plane Function (UPF) and Edge server pairings, utilizing a Quality of Service (QoS) table. This can ensure a deterministic UPF handoff by evaluating the benefits of the handoff prior to initiating the transfer, and preventing superfluous UPF handoffs if the current UPF already offers superior latency.
