Abstract

Every year, many people accidentally put the wrong fuel in their car. This can occur at many refueling stations where diesel and gasoline fuels are offered because gasoline nozzles are smaller in diameter and can fit into a diesel fuel tank. The type of fuel being used by the operator is easily identifiable based on the color of the fuel nozzle handle. Vehicles have an exterior sensor suite, including cameras, that can be used in conjunction with image recognition capabilities to identify the fuel handle color and determine if the appropriate fuel nozzle is being used by the operator.
