The present disclosure relates to optical networks and specifically to locking traffic rerouting on a current working route in an optical network. This can provide new commands in an optical control plane. This empowers network operators to take more informed decisions for every service in case testing or maintenance activities. For example, this approach provides an option to deal with issues on a current working route, where the mesh restorations can be denied/allowed. This will help meeting key requirement of network operators i.e., High network up-time and maximum traffic availability which used to get compromised because of maintenance activities such as upgrades, network conditions whereas no protection routes available in case restoration gets triggered. This feature could be unique value add for control plane applications.
