Abstract
Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) enable tracking ownership of digital media contents, such as images, photographs, videos, music, media streams, … in blockchain based distributed ledgers. However, due to the open nature of public blockchains, there is no way to ensure that an NFT has been created by the owner of the digital content, or by somebody else who, somehow, got access to the digital content without holding the corresponding rights. This creates the problem of ‘forged NFTs’. The proposed solution uses a ‘web of trust’ paradigm, implemented on the same blockchain that manages the NFTs, to verify that NFTs are ‘authentic’, i.e. they have been created by the legitimate creator (or owner) of the digital content.
