Abstract
We have been working with our supplier to work on a POC with sensor aggregated vision AI computing to replace Hall sensor for lid closure detection with existing ACS and IMU as a cost saving solution. The target platform will be all clamshell notebooks with Hall sensors. This can save ~$0.3 per unit for all HP bNB, ~$3M annual saving in total. In addition, removing the hall sensor can help reducing the system weight and part complexity. Using ACS only can detect brightness change during lid closure. However, in the low light scenario, ACS may not be sufficient to differentiate lid closure from the dark background or if someone may cover the sensor. Therefore, IMU can help determine right there is a right motion profile (rotation of screen) occurring at the same time when the light level changes.
