The invention proposes a kitchen appliance capable of recognizing the type of dishware used in cooking operations. Such a kitchen appliance comprises a control unit and a recognition system. The recognition unit mainly comprises a camera unit, a memory unit, characteristic data of dishware, and the data related to the food list. The recognition system is capable of recognizing the characteristics of several types of dishware and forwarding these characteristic data to the control unit, wherein the control unit adjusts the parameters of the selected cooking mode based on the obtained characteristics of the dishware and the food type. The invention thus allows the user to improve the cooking results irrespective of the dishware used for cooking.
