Abstract
Wearable displays such as smartglasses are heavy and performance-constrained due to weight restrictions. This disclosure describes a mobile head-up display (MHUD) comprising a lightweight component that sits on the user’s face that is connected to a smartphone or other device carried on the user’s person. Compute-intensive, heavy components are offloaded to and leverage the existing capabilities of the smartphone. Components that deliver a multimedia user experience, e.g., near-eye display, camera, sensors, headphones, etc. are located on the head-up display. The app-developer ecosystem of the smartphone is leveraged to provide MHUD apps at scale and competitive cost.
