Abstract
We describe a process based on Computer Vision and Machine Learning that enables a document
scanner to clean the document of stains, fingers holding the paper and other localized elements that are
not part of the original document. The process described here extends the functionality of existing mobile
scanning apps, including a Machine Learning‐based classifier to give a probabilistic response of whether a
region should be removed, as well as a User Interface to allow the user to ultimately decide the result of the process.
